ZX-11 Overheating
Hello All,
My bike was overheating prior to replacing the thermo. It stil overheats but now the overflow is coming from the radiator overflow tube not he resorvoir overflow tube. Could I have improperly installed the thermo? Thanks, DragonZ |
RE: ZX-11 Overheating
you did bleed the air pocket out of the water pump down on the bottom of the engine?
the water pump has an high point that can fill the pump with air and stop it from pumping water, their is an bleed bolt in the body of the water pump, but be easy and dont crack the pump body loosening the bolt/screw also the thermostat housing has an bleed screw to remove the air out of the top of the engine |
RE: ZX-11 Overheating
Thanks. I did bleed it form the thermo. Continued to overheat though I replaced the thermo and fan switch. Will bleed form the bottom. Hope that the issue.
Now the fuel pump is leaking. Unbelievable!!! I mean its leaking from the housing itself. Not the fuel lines. Once relaced, I'll get back on the overheating issue. Missin out on some great December days for riding. DragonZ |
RE: ZX-11 Overheating
Did you try letting it cool down, then start it starting it up and grabbing hold of the rad hose to make sure you have flow (after the bike reaches temp.)? Another question did you use permatex, or a liquid gasket that could have clogged the t'stat keeping it from opening? I'm not trying to be an ass just asking questions to get an idea of what's going on. If the t'stat is open, the system is full, the fan turns on, and you have flow than it has to cool (or slow the rate of overheating).

RE: ZX-11 Overheating
I replaced the thermo, fan switch, and radiator cap. The only thing I have yet to to do short of replacing the water pump is to bleed bottom half for air.

RE: ZX-11 Overheating
If you grab hold of the rad hose, and it's firm you should be able to feel the coolant flowing. If you can feel it than the water pump should be OK.

RE: ZX-11 Overheating
yup, burp the system of air and verify flow.
