valves clicking, need technical help

I have an 87 ninja 750. runs great but the valves tick like a bitch. I was thinking I would just adjust the valve clearance (lash). But I don't have a book for the bike... So I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me exactly how to do this. The things I need to know are:
How to remove the head ( how easy it is )
how to turn the crank and identify tdc
what the cleareances and what not should be
And anything alse that you can think of that I would need to know to do this.

Also my buddy said that he heard ticking in his bike and then he changed the exhaust gasket and it stopped. I don't think that it would fix my prob though.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!!!

I think if your going to get into it that far you should get the servicemanual. I have one for my r1 and its worth it.

Definately get a manual - the Clymer manual that I have for my bike is pretty detailed and easy to follow. You can check out their site at http://www.clymer.com

Also this one http://www.haynes.com/na4.html

I agree with the others. You really need to get the manual. As for the ticking coming from the exhaust gasket, If there was a new exhaust put on then yes, they need to be replaced. But if you have the stock header, I don't think that would be the problem.
