Tachometer Odometers Not Working - 2009 Ninja 500

I apologize if this question has been posed already, I searched the forum but could not find it.
I have a 2009 Ninja 500 and I just noticed that the Tachometer is not working (stays on 0 like if the bike were still).
I checked the Odometers and none of the three works (i.e. the main one and one of the trip one on the same tachometer gauge and the other trip one on the RPM indicator gauge don't move).
The RPM indicator does work fine.

I talked with a repair shop technician who told me (without doing a diagnostic yet) that is probably either the cable that transmits the movement from the engine to the Gauges or the gears that pick up the movement from the engine and pass it to the cable (apologies for my poor technical terminology).
He thought the cable was unlike, given the young age of the bike (it does have 6,500 miles on it though) and it was more likely the gear that got ruined after being mounted incorrectly after a tire change.
Now I never changed the tires but I bough my bike used so I don't know if the previous owner has changed them. Yet, the latter hypothesis seems a bit weak.

I'd like to ask those who are more experienced what they think and if it is a thing (replacing the cable, the gear and/or the gauges) that is relatively easy to do for someone who has some mechanical skills (I do my own minor repairs) but not much experience.

The cable works loose at the gauge connection really easily. Mine worked loose and fell off a couple of times. Place a dab of blue (my choice) loctite/thread locker or your preference to the gauge threads, and re-install the speedometer cable. Good to go.

Thanks Dragone, it appears it was exactly as you said :) !
I screwed it in place and will see how it goes.
If it keeps falling I'll try the locktite next.
