Symptoms of running lean/rich?

I have a 98 zx6r. I just installed a yoshimura slip on exhaust and when the bike is cold (first 3-5mins) it will occassionally stall if i don't give it a little gas. It wasn't this bad because with my stock exhaust but when it is warm, everything goes away and it rides fine. any opinions? TIA

When you say cold what temp are you running at. You should let it warm up to about 120 before riding.

i usually let it get to 3 bars before i start riding which takes about 5 minutes. I have a 98 so it doesn't display the temp. digitally. But before it reaches that '3 bar' stage, the idle it pretty rough (always wanting to stall/bog down)

basically my only concern is simply.....i don't want my bike to run 'too' lean as it will burn my valves. I just want to make sure that with just a slip on, i will be okay until i decide to install a jet kit this summer

Sounds like it is starving for fuel when idling, have you ever cleaned your carbs, taken them off and disassembled them. If not you may want to do that or maybe re-jet, even though it is a slip on it is still allowing more air to get into the system and increasing the pilot jets would help.

Dyno jet has kit for around 100.00 and you can call them and give them details about your bike, they will recommend the proper kit. Either way it’s not too hard.
