question after changing belt on prairie

i recently had my 05' 360 serviced... I went ahead and took it to a local shop (not a kaw dealer). I hadn't had the machine long and wanted it gone over real good and since the belt light was on, I figured I would have it changed ( i know i should have done it myself, but I wanted it given a thorough going over)
anyway, I put on a slightly heavier aftermarket belt but I did buy the belt from a kaw dealer.
First ride on it after the fact it had a whistle or squeak when sitting still but in gear. If i put it in neutral or give it some throttle the whine goes away.. I took it back to the shop and they said they would prob need to add or remove a shim.
Is there anything I should worry about? I didn't feel real confident in the actual mechanic's reaction to it, he was told about the shim by the shop owner.
How bad could it get screwed up?

check out the fiche Trail man- Kawasaki ATV Parts 2005 KVF360-B3 Prairie 360 DRIVEN CONVERTER (B3) Diagram

I am not a mechanic, but you can see the adjustment shims that was mentioned from your mechanic listed in the fiche. Personally, you should read through your factory service manual to help yourself learn your ride ( I do not have one to peruse for your ride). The shims replacement in relation to your variable speed sheave setup along with cleanliness makes sense to me when the new belt was replaced. I am not familiar with the heavier duty belt that you mentioned and if that may have caused some of the concerns.

Let us know, good luck and Welcome to KF

thanks for the reply... i'm just frustrated and concerned b/c my old belt was fine and it had just tripped the 100 hours mark i figure but I felt that since it was new to me, I wanted to just put a new belt on, and now I have a squeak and before I just had a light on

I hear ya on this. Nothing more annoying than having one thing "fixed" just to find out that it just created more headaches.
