Default Question about a ZL1000

I recently purchased a 1982 Kawasaki ZL1000. I was going to check the oil level and am not certain that what what I think is the port to add oil is really the place to add oil. It looks like the typical screw plug on the left side of the bike with a raised tang for opening by hand, but is located at what looks like where the engine and transmission connect. Also there is not a dip stick attached, so how would one check the oil level? Under the seat is a plastic container for holding fluid, but the fluid type is not listed, nor is there any type of symbol. Can anyone offer any suggestions for either of these two issues?
Thanks,
