There should be some indicator marks on the side of the sight glass, as long as you are in between the marks you are good. Usually the recomended amount brings it just above the lower line. Remember after changing the oil you need to run the engine for a few seconds to get oil into the filter before checking and also when it is running it will read lower than when it is cool.
Check your oil after the bike has sat for a few minutes with a buddy sitting on the bike to hold it straight up and if its still low, go ahead and add some. The oil fill amounts have variables such as how much of the oil didnt drain from the motor and how much stayed in the bottle, always trust what your ride tells you. If your bike says it needs oil then put it in. Congrats on the new ride, can we get some pics? |

Capacity: 3.4L when filter is not removed 3.6L when filter is removed 4.0L when engine is completely dry See pg 7-8 in your factory service manual explaining Proms statement on running the engine after an oil change. Welcome to KF |
If it's low put a little more oil in it till it's in the middle with the bike upright.

I always pour some oil into the filter before I screw it on; cars/trucks, too. Let it soak into the filter media and refill until it stops soaking in. Put just enough in so you have some in the center, but not enough to spill everywhere when you screw it on. Tap on a flat surface to loosen the air bubbles. I also run my oily finger around the rubber seal, just to ensure it doesn't pinch on install.
This way, you don't oil starve in the first few seconds when you start the bike/vehicle. |
