OK, I've managed to find the lil bastard, now how the heck do I get it to budge without and oil filter wrench?

You are going to need some type of wrench to get it off. You are not going to take it off by hand thats for sure. I prefer my band strap and two bolt heads between the band and the filter for added grip.

I punch a hole in it with a screwdriver and use it as a lever to unscrew it.

Is there an anti-rotation device (Clamp) installed around the filter. That will make it almost impossible to remove. The 03-04 636's have them. You can go to an auto parts store and get the cap type oil fiter wrench to fit over it and take it off, a strap wrenchor use a big pair of channel locks. I don't recommend the screwdriver because you risk getting metal particles draining back through the filterinto the oil galley. That should be the last resort/a worst case scenario.

Hmmm, fair enough. It was a bit of a last resort situation when I did it. The strap wrench wouldn't do the job for me.. But, next time I'll buy the cap wrench since I work at an auto parts store now.
