Oil Change?

What oil do you guys think i should use for a 06 636 .... Mobil 1 15-50 full synthetic? This is my first bike and just wondering if some one can walk me through with pic. maybe. Its the first oil change and want to know if i have to tighten the chain and how much, and want to know what else has to be done. I feel dumb asking, i know how to work on cars fine but just wanted to know exactally what to do, step by step. Also how often do should I lube my chain?
Thanks!

RE: Oil Change?

I use valvoline racing 25-50 in my valk...gonna switch to that in my 636 on my next oil change....but the weathers hot out here....takes it about 30 sec to warm up to 104

RE: Oil Change?

You should clean and lube your chain every 500 miles.... I use Chain Lube, it is a spray on wax, and not messy!!
As for chain tension, I believe that thing is 30 mm...Don't forget to check your air pressure also..

BTW, Welcome to the forums!!

RE: Oil Change?

Engine oil first: Use dino oil for 10-40 usually for break in's. The engine and the clutch have to be broke in before using synthetic since they use the same oil. I have a 10r but changed at 200 miles and 800 miles. But that is just me.
Place synthetic after 1200 miles I think the manual mentioned.
The manual states what viscosity for your climate in the oil department. I am using the castrol dino oil.

Chain wise, I just peek at it after a ride. Dirty, I clean it and reapply my PJ stuff. I like wd-40 or diesel for cleaning. That alone is a topic in itself. For tightening, you want approx. 1/2". Not too tight or too loose.
