odo confusion
 

My buddy and I took a trip down to sea isle city, nj last weekend. He's got a 2002 triumph TT 600 and i own a 2002 Kawi zx-6r. we both filled up our tank and reset our trip odos at the same time. When we got down there i noticed i had 140 miles even and he was sittin at 130 something. I don't know if it matters but i checked and we sit on the same size tires. i also noted today that my trip to work in my 92 labarron is usually 23 miles. my bike showed 31. this sux cause my bike is puttin on more miles then what should be. Can someone explain???

Did you buy the bike new?
Have you or the previous owner changed your sprockets and went to a different combo than stock?

You v=can get a speedo healer and it will allow you to adjust your Speedo.

The best way is to have it set up on the dyno but you can use gps or if you have a spot around your area where you know the mileage from point a to point b there is a formula for this as well.

thanx for the input. I bought my bike used w/ 12K. I got 16 now. i will count the sprokets and see if it was changed.

If you find that the sprockets were changed you can use speedo healer's calculator to tell how off your speedo is. http://www.speedohealer.com/eng/adjust.htm

Bikes are notorious for speedo error, none of them are 100%

well i counted and i have stock 42 sproks. i was also wonderin where the speedo sensor is. The TT has it on the front hub.

Isn't your speedo (trip/odo) run off the front wheel?!?! Thus making your sprocket combination meaningless in this situation.

He is riding a 2002 6r so I belive the sprocket change will be a factor.

Sprockets have nothing to do with the speedo, just the RPM's.

Kawasaki's have always been notorious for having inacurate speedos. With the speedo being off, the odo will be off also. Borrow a GPS to get and accurate speed.

I've had 3 Kawi's over the years and all have been off.

Speedo is affected buy sprocket change. Most sport bikes speedo is controlled electronically by the engine and not a cable, when you change sprockets you affect your rpms and therefore causing your speedo to become inaccurate.

Parts like the Speedo Healer and the Yellow Box compensate for these inaccuracies and recalculate your speedo. I have the Speedo Healer on my R1, my speedo was off around 11% after changing my sprockets to -1 +2.

well maybe my chain is the factor or my front sprocket? so where exactly IS the Speedo sensor? i apriciate all your feed back thanx
