Ninja Help Needed
What should a newbie look for when buying his first bike???
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and was looking for a ninja. I found one on craigslist but I don't know what to inspect. This is what I have so far:
1. Seller has pink slip
2. is currently registered
3. When last tune up/ cleaned carburetors
4. accidents/ dents/ dropped/ cosmetic damages
5. if the bike starts and changes gears properly
6. breaks and tires
I was wondering if any of you could give me tips on how to inspect a Ninja 900R. The owner says there is a "slight oil leak (easy fix), braided oil like is leaking"
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks All.

Welcome to the forums.
Is this your very first bike? any kind of riding experience at all? Dirt bikes etc?
What year is the 9? A 9 is a bit of a heavier bike, but nice bikes. I always test ride, but in your case( if you have no exp) might be a good idea if you could have a buddy test ride for ya. Test for smoothness of tranny, gears, engine, braking, bent frame indications, vibrations at speed, etc.
If this is your first bike, then you will probably drop it trying to learn . I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, just the probablity of that happening is high.
If the oil leak is an easy fix, why hasn't the current owner fixed it?
Generally, I like to know also, when the last time the fork fluid has been changed, antifreeze and brake fluid.
Check all the rubber lines, fork seals, etc. And chain, sprocket....
WHat kind of aftermarket work is done on the bike? Jet kit? Air filter? etc.
And it comes down to price also. I like the 9's. If she runs decent, etc and you can pick her up for a good price, that be cool.
Can you post up the craigslist add?

Any oil leak is fixable. Depending on location, I can tell you exactly whats leaking. take a pic, so I can see it leaking.
Drag is right, get somebody that rides to go with you. If you're gonna get a lemon, get it cheap!!! Leaves $$$ for repairs...
