Default My Concours will start but won't go. Please help.

I have a 1992 Kawasaki Concours that has been sitting for a few years. I reconditioned it today and started it up. It started right up and is running strong. When I put it in gear and let out the clutch, it dies. I tried rolling it down a hill and putting it in gear with the engine running and it still dies. It won't go into second gear, but it shifts into first gear perfectly. As long as I hold in the clutch, it runs fine in first. But when I let out the clutch, it immediately dies. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a faulty kickstand switch to me.

Does the engine just 'kill' itself as if you turned the key off? Or does it sputter out?

Not sure on your definition on that. Just a guess, you did not totally remove the carbs for rebuild?

Thanks for the suggestions. It was the kickstand switch. The switch has somehow come unseated off the kickstand and wants to rest on the kickstand frame mount. I took it off and reseated the switch. That helped for yesterday. I got on the bike today and found that it came unseated again. Any suggestions on how to get the switch to stay on the kickstand? Besides welding a stop on the frame bracket? Once again thanks for all your help.
