well its finially happened, i lost my key. A lock smith wants 50 bucks to cut a new key and i can't get the ignition off. Anyone know how to get the 2 screws out to detatch it from the top tree. also I tried to hotwire it to take the bike to the locksmith, and no luck. it turns over, but no fire. any help is greatly appreciated.

 

what part do you want off...do you want to take off the entire ignition switch

 

Dam bro that sucks. Pay the 50.00 bones and get a duplicate made up. I have feared this for a while because I only have 1 key too. Maybe now I will go and get the copy made.

 

i need to take the entire ignition housing to the locksmith, but i can't get the damn thing off. I used a mirror to look in the hole and it looks like a really fing small socket, like 6mm but i tried 4-8 and nothing fits.

 

i will take a lok at mine right now for you and see if i can figure it out

 

Its made so it is hard to get off for a reason. Hey I think the dealer can get you a key with your vin# and title. Call and ask!

well i looked online and and from what i found it looks like the bolts that hold the ignition swiths are breakaway bolts.....so you would have to drill them out to remove the switch then replace the screws.....the other way i think would be to remove the upper triplle clamp and unlpug the ignition swith and take it to the lock smith

 

any ideas on hotwiring. i know new ninja's have a antihotwire thing but i have no idea about mine. the service manual doesn't help either. there are 5 wires on the ignition. one is a hot wire, 2 are ignition wires and 2 are brake light wires. when i hook up the hot wire to ignition wire1, everything turns on, the bike will turn over but thats it. when i hook ignition wire2 to the hot, nothing changes. any ideas.
