Lack of Power
okay so I have a 2001 EX500. It has about 21,000 miles on it. At 5th and 6th gear at around 4500 rpms you can feel a huge lack of power coming from the bike? I originaly thought it might be the carbs but to be honest i have No idea which is the reasoning im posting here lol. But do you guys have any ideas on what it could be? Thanks a lot
Does the power come back on at the high revs? Using 5th and 6th gear at 4500 rpms is like idling. This your first street ride? Get comfy with your ride and see if that will help ya out.

But 4500 rpms is Alot to me for a 6 gear! Its just wierd!
Doesnt seem like my friend's 2003 R1 is that high in 6th!
But what do I know?
hey bro you can't compare a R1 liter bike<--1000cc's) to a ex 500. it's like compareing apples and rocks. toatally different

hey thanks for the responses. but to clear things up... Regardless to which gear I'm in, I feel substantial lack of power from 4500 rpm all the way up to redline. My two roommates (who also have bikes, a SV650s and a Ninja 250) have tried my bike and feel the same lack of power after 4500 rpm.
thanks for clarifying Mike. Did this all of a sudden do this? You moved to a different town ie elevation. Is your generator producing enough power for higher revs?
edit: How do the plugs look? along with the wires?
