Default kz 1000 problem

I just got a 1980 kz 1000 and I have a problem. You can rev it up good in neutral or with the clutch in but when you're riding it and you try to get on it, itcuts out or bogs down. If you pull in the clutch it revs right up. I can't figure it out. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Any suggestions?

You're probably running lean. Spray some starting fluid around your carb boots and vacuum lines to see if the idle changes at all. If it doesn't, you may need to either check the idle air mixture needles up top of the carbs, or look at cleaning the carbs from the inside out.

Good luck, and welcome to the KF family!

thank you so much for your reply I tried to sync the carbs the bestI could by setting all the slides the same with a torch tip cleaner for a gauge it still does it but only when you are riding when its in nuetral it sounds good and you can rev it right up I tried adjusting the timing it has a dyna ignition I turned the backing plate both ways it helped a little but when your riding and try to go over 5 or 6 grand it sounds like it not getting or not taking the gas I didnt want to take the float bowls off but if i have to I will what should I look for as the problem?

you have to find the one that goes under the slide just touching and adjust the other three to that needle with the cam adjusting screw in the top of carbs

Right on, I just learned something. I am used to hooking up my gauges on the CV carbs.

Interesting concept there. I would still use a gauge so you can dial-in your carbs to 100% percent accuracy.
