Hi Guys I have the 08 KX250F, I cant sing this bikes praises enough! What an amazing machine, She never battles to start 2nd-3rd kick when cold with choke engaged, 1 kick when hot using the hot start. I do how ever have 1 issue with the bike she backfires when I tap off the throttle, I would ideally like to keep her wide open all day everyday but unfortunately this is not possible. She idles fine and goes like a bat out of hell when i open her smooth all the way, the backfire is the only issue to an otherwise perfect bike.

The exhaust glow is likely no big deal. Single wall exhaust tubes can get quite hot since exhaust temps are usually well over 1000 deg F (537 C) and will heat up the header. Especially if in stock lean jetted form. I had an SR500 that I let get warmed up for about 10 minutes on a sub freezing night. When I went out I saw the pipe glowing red from the head on back about 10" (25.4 cm). Blued the chrome. Within a short time after starting to roll the glow was gone. Exhaust is definitely hot.

Jonathan, What you have is a lean or deceleration pop, adjust your air, fuel mixture screw in 1/4 turn and try it .The initial adjustment is 1and 3/4 to 2 turns out from being screwed in all the way
. also sometimes they even fall completely out causing erratic idle

I don't know about your kx specifically, but I've heard of klx250s bikes having a bent shift pin and/or shift star problem. The bent pin usually occurs due to an impact to the shifter from a crash. Good luck there. Welcome to KF.

so I have a kx250f 07. It was sitting for 6 months. So I did a carb rebuild and it only runs on choke. The hot start is frozen so idk if that's the issue.
I cleaned the hell of the carb
