KLX 650R Outer Clutch Basket Problems
 

Last year I blew out my outer clutch basket, the gear in the rear of the outer clutch basket snapped two of the teeth. I just replaced it to go riding up at the Oregon Dunes in Coos Bay and after 5 days of riding it, it did it again . Has anyone experienced this problem?...If so maybe you know what is causing it?...This is getting expensive to fix and a headache...It happened this time when I shut the bike off and I heard a crunch and then my kick starter had no mojo!. I am running a 11:1 compression....Any help will do...If anyone has a outer clutch basket in good shape lying around their garage for a fair price let me know....1996 KLX 650R

honestly, you have me curious as to why and what the outer gear that your mentioning looks like. I do not have a klx. But would still like some pics if you have any. I only played with the banshees on the Oregon coast. Florence or Wallport normally

I can't help you on that but I'm curious about where you live. I lived in Portland for 7 years, going to college most of that time, but I stayed on after I got done with college and also spent a few ofmy summers out there during college too and used to likedriving out to Coos Bay andother parts ofthecoast.It's gotwhole different feel to it than most of the east coast shore line that I liked. Years ago though now.

Reno, NV now, Portland and Sweet Home while in Oregon. Still curious as to why you are having issues.

Well, I guess its a little tougher to make it to Coos Bay from Reno than it was from Portland. I was just thinking when you mentioned that that taking a ride out from Portland to Coos Bay would be a nice ride this time of year.Don't know Reno that well but Portland's a good place to live.

j_chrisopherhall, Florence was our main stop for the quads most of the time. To hit Portland International, a 12 hour drive from Reno (after the move). Hauling the rides to the track from here would wear me out prolly more than the track itself. So I have not hit up OMRRA any since my move. I may be going to anecortes on the ride for a road trip in Sept. Lets hook up.

I'm on the East Coast now(since late'98); but if I wind up out that way in September, Anacortes would be a nice place to ride to. Take care.
