KFX 400 won't run without choke on, any ideas?

Hi,

I'm working on an 04 or 05 KFX 400. The bike won't run unless the choke is applied. The moment the choke is dialed off, the motor dies. I can try to keep it running without the choke on, but it eventually stalls.

I took the float bowl off, cleaned it out. It was a little varnishy. I took out the two screw in jets and cleaned those thoroughly. Reassembled everything and it still does the same thing.

The carb has an electrical connection on the clutch side. Does any one know what that is for?

Any ideas as to what could be causing the problem?

Thanks,
Elliot

Take the carbs off and thoroughly clean them. I am having the same problem with my 95 ZX-7. After I painted the gas tank, I reinstalled it with out flushing it and I am guessing that I put a lot of dirt into the carbs. It ran perfect before.

The plug runs back and connects to the ECU or brain and has sensors ect. I am going to pull mine off and clean and then sync so hopefully it will solve my problem.

Let me know if you find something out on yours.

Mike

Phase3, Hey I took off my carbs and cleaned, removed main and pilot jets they were very dirty. The whole unit was for that mater. Well she fired up but needs the valves adjusted, knocks real loud and dose not idle well.[&o]

Well more wrenching I have a service manual so I am going to attempt, I mean do the valve adjustment and the cams.

Hopefully just valve and cam adjustment. Although when I looked down at the valves some where very black and looked pitted, maybe carbon deposit. I will post some pics when I get into it.

If you have any info to pass along I take it, this is my first time. ha first time lol

not trying to be mean or say any thing wronge but are you sure your turnning off the choke and not actualy turning it on instead. A guy in my motorcycle saftey class was doing that on is bike and it wasn't running hardly at all.

Yup no choke bro and that was a good thought, sometimes it is the simple things that get us. My R1 had a bad valve adjustment once, the cams were left out of adjustment and it acted in the same manor. Besides, if the rest is as bad as the carbs I am sure it needs it.
