idle mixture screw questions
 

Back story: the bike was put up for a few months without starting. I had to go in and clean out the carbs and jets. The jets has trash in them so after cleaning i was able to get the bike to run again. The problem now is in order to get the bike to start when its cold outside I have to set the idle at 4000 plus.

I didn't not touch the idle mixture screws during the first cleaning so I was going back in to work on those. I am going to use this http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Removin...re_screw_plugs since ive never messed with this before. My question is do i replace the plugs that are drilled out to get to the screws? Any other thoughts or suggestions to do when the bike is apart to fix this problem are welcome.

Leave the plug out. Did you clean the slow speed circuit at the same time? Is the diaphragm placed correctly for the CV? (not pinched?)

The slow speed circuit was cleaned and the diaphragm looked fine, ill recheck when apart to make sure. The only reason the mix screws were not cleaned was because I did not know how to get the plugs out without doing damage to them. But now I know they don't need to be there so hopefully another carb clean should fix the problem.

Yup...sounds like the idle / slow speed / pilot ports and drillings which are very fine are gummed up or blocked, that means you can only achieve an idle with your idle screws screwed right in... Whenever I park my bike up for a few months I drain the bowls and then crank engine for a couple of seconds to suck out any fuel from those circuits it doesn't dry in
