How much is too much can you DIY?!? (carb cleaning)
I don't know the degree of difficulty in cleaning my carbs, would it be better to just goto the shop?!? and links? also how much is over paying for a carb cleaning?
uh, don't know. I would think prolly a couple of hrs, tear down and reassembly. that does not include soak time. Not sure the rates in your area. Resynch and everything prolly 3 hrs labor.
i charge $25 a carb typically for everything.. removal, clean, reinstall and sync. well, x4 thats 100 i made for not that much work, but its still reasonable..
you can EASILY do the work, if you're very careful, and keep yout parts in order, i found that you don't always have to re- sync the carbs. you can be safe, and clean 1 at a time as to not confuse 4 sets of vacuum pistons, needle, seats, floats, jets, and everything else.
cant confuse the jets if they're stock, the inner jets on #2&#3 are 170 (i think) and #1&4 are 180.. i might be backwards.. it may be 170- outties, 180- innies... been a while since i did my carbs..
but anyway, as long as you take your time and are careful, and have plenty of brakleen, you'll save some mobey, and gain useful knowledge of your machine.

I would say do it yourself, you will be proud of yourself and learn more about your bike. I think it is essential for every rider to know the inner workings of their bike so that when things like turning the fuel valve off cough cough happen, we have the confidence we can fix our own rides in necessary situations. I say get a manual, and ask questions here. There are plenty of people here that could run through a carb blindfolded to guide you. The way I learned is tearing the carbs apart and asking people that knew. My 2 one hundredths of a dollar. Now if you are really ummm not mechanically inclined, I would probably have somone show you first.

To sync the carbs what equipment will be required besides obvious sockets/wrenches?
Mercury meter?
