Handlebar removal
 

Hey, I bent my left side handlebar in a wreck and I'm debating about how to take it off before I install my new one. A friend told me to take the front wheel off and slide it down the fork, but that seemed a little over-the-top (or under-the-bottom? -joke). My proposal is simple, take the nut that is over the handlebar/fork crossmember (dunno the specific name) and slide it off, then just slide the handlebar off. It's a 2006 Ninja ZX-6R (636). Here are some pictures of her new, and then some of prep work after the wreck.

Pop the top yoke off, pull the clip on if the bracket is whacked. Install and place the top yoke back on. Re torque the stem, ( should do that anyways after a fall) and finish the details of installing the controls and grip.

what he said. what sux about the 636 is the clip on mounting bracket and handlebar are one piece. its not like the older bikes where you can just replace the handlebar.

To be honest this is my first time working on a bike, which I was forced to do after wrecking my poor, poor bike. I've only really worked on cars before. I won an Ebay auction for a stock clip-on in great shape for 12 bucks shipped :) -- what a steal! They're 114 bucks from bikebandit.com (OEM). Now I have to find out the torque values for the stem.

So I take it you do not own a manual yet. If you plan on keeping that ride, buy a manual.

You mean the service manual I see around on Ebay, right? Not the owner's manual they give you with the purchase of the bike...
