Engine Dies when shifting... [SOLVED]

Hello everyone,
I just bought a 1997 zx-6r.

I test drove it and it felt great!!! (definitely didn't have this problem) and then when I go to start it up the next day I can get it running in neutral but when I pull the clutch and change gears the engine dies. The engine runs great otherwises

A related problem may be that if I try to start the engine SOMETIMES in neutral, the bike just clicks really fast and demands that I pull the clutch, start it and then I can let it go.

I can't start it with the clutch in on any other gear either.

PLEASE HELP - I'm so scared [:o]

Sounds like maybe the neutral sensor is not working. I am not to sure about yours but on my 95 zx7 there is a wire that comes from under the seat compartment and attaches on the left side of the transmission near your shifter. Check and make sure it is making a good connection.

Also about stalling when putting into gear make sure your side stand is up. If it is down the engine will kill it self.

Hope this helps.

No problem bro.

On the clicking make shure your not in gear either and you are starting in neutral. Check the neutral sensor wire as well. These are all problems I have had before.

Except for the side stand of course:D

I got my first bike about a week ago. I had the same problem. Except I solved it when I looked down at the shifter and saw the kick stand still down ;)
