bike gets very hot

I bought a 1997 zx-6r about a week ago. Today was the first time I was idelling for awhile once the bike was warmed up. I was at 4 stop lights for probably a total of 10 min very close together. Soon after I pulled into my drive way, and when I went to shut it off I noticed that the temperature guage was just under the red. I've heard the fan running so I know that works. Is this normal for this bike, or is there something I need to check out?

Check the coolant in the reservoir. I dont have a ZX-6 but it might be under a cover somewhere. Macke sure that it is at the full line

not realy and you will have to bleed the air out of the system after replacing it, cheak to make sure your radiator is not cloged with bugs and dirt clean from back to front no high presure use some simple green to help losen all the crap in there try this first.. how hot was it that day? my zrx says no extended idling more than 5 minutes straight, were u reving it up while sitting in trafic how high is your idle to high it will get hot good luck

no way to clean it, and I have never hear of unsticking it [8D] its only a $10 part with new gasket

as a auto mechanic this is alway the first thing i will replace when confronted with a over or under heating problem

HEY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR BIKE BEHIND THE FAIRING IS THE RADIATOR, JUST PUTTIN WATER IN THE RESIVOR WILL NOT FILL THE RADIATOR THE RESIVOR IS JUST FOR SHOW/ OVERFLOW IF YOU OVERFILL THE RESIVOR AND YOUR ENGINE OVERHEATS THA HOT ASS FLUID WILL SCARE YOUR LEG PRETTY BAD. BUT BACK TO THE RADIATOR YOU GONNA HAVE TO TAKE THE FAIRING OFF TO GET TO THE RADIATOR CAP, THEN PUT SOME RADIATOR FLUID IN IT. JUST WATCH HOW MUCH YOUR RADIATOR IS EMPTY, THEN IF YOU GOT BOUT 15 BUCKS GO TO THIS SITE https://store.58cycle.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=76 AND GET THE 12oz BOTTLE OF Red Line Water Wetter Super Coolant IT WILL HAVE YOUR ENGINE RUNNING 20 DEGREEZ COOLER. I USE IT ON ME ZX6R AND ITS GREAT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE STUCK IN TRAFFIC AND YOUR ENGINE TEMP IS RISING LIKE HELL.
