97 zx 11 problem HELP!!!! : )
OK i have a 97 zx-11 that I had a problem with yesterday.
First the bike got shaky at acceleration then would only go up to about 5000 rpm then stall out . I would have to start and try again but just wouldn't go any further than 5000 then 4000 then 3000 then the bike won't even start. Now the bike doesn't turn over at all and there is a clicking noise. Any ideas on where to go with this? I'm new to bikes but not mechanics, dumb question, where is the battery? Not under the seat, figured this would be the first thing for me to check... Any help from you guys is greatly appreiciated, I need to get my baby back on the road. Thanks Guys |
RE: 97 zx 11 problem HELP!!!! : )
Wanna say that I found the battery underneath the gas tank with the starter seliniod. The bike wont turn over still and I hooked up a voltometer to the battery and it says the battery is good. I also checked the fuse in the starter selinoid its good but when I hit the button to turn it over the selinoid clicks. So I was a bad boy and put a wrench between the positive and the starter wire on the selinoid and that made it turn over but the bike still wont start and still click unless I do that to make it turn over.
Anyone have any ideas? |

First.. a dead battery may read at full voltage..
the battery must be tested for volts under a load... im not 100% sure but it sounds very much like you have a charging problem As if: (for example) if the alternator died while ridding your bike it would only have the battery left to supply its electric current as the battery ran out of juice.. so did your spark.. getting weeker and weeker thus getting lower and lower rpm's. As far as ive ever known.. including cars trucks bikes boats planes etc etc.. non of these vehicle needs a battery to run the battery is only needed to start the engine. the charging system would do all the rest. (lights, coil.. etc). The cheepest test would be to first charge the battery over night.... put it back to the bike... start it up.. as its still running... disco the battery again.. do a volt test at the terminals coming from the bike if the bike dies when you disco the battery after start up.. that would be a charging problem.. go backwards from there |
