95 ZX6R
I'm new here,I'm posting this question for my cousin he has a 95 ZX6R WITH ABOUT 45,000 miles on it,it has an after market slip on exhaust on it.He took it apart and took some kind of fiber wraping off the baffle. Bike sounds great, runs great, but now won't hardly start. It's fine once it finally starts.Any ideas? Thanks for any help. help.
That's called packing or wadding, to be honest I can't remember the exact name. It is what reduces the noise and gives the pipe it's own tone. Pipes need to be repacked from time to time. You can order new packing from the pipes manufacture.
Not starting is odd, by removing the packing you will increase the air flow and probably be running on the lean side. Lean is not that good. Check your plugs for being lean.
I would say that you should order new packing and see if that helps, besides the pipe is designed to operate with it and the bike is probably tuned with it as well. Be careful running to lean it can damage the engine.

Not really sure if bikes are like cars but cars need a little bit of back pressure for them to run right. It could be the cause for the problems he's having I thing maybe you should tell you brother to repack the pipe and see if it starts like it should start.
