454 ltd on and off temps for fan switch

Picked up a basket case 87 454 ltd, cheap. Have been working on it 3 months now, almost ready to go. Was hoping someone could tell me what the on and off temperatures of the thermal fan switch are, or what the temperature these engines should run at. Thanks in advance.

Somewhere in the range of 180-210 degrees. Suspect the fan will kick on around 190 or so. Temps above 215-220 are a time bomb; make sure fan works or find one quick.
Post up some pics!

Thanks for that info jeffzx9.
I'll try and post a couple a pix tonight. I'm on dial up so bear with me,, slower than the second comin a christ. My fan is working, I just wasn't sure if I was running to hot. I've put a thermal switch out of a car onto this bike, specs are on at 194 F and off at 185 F. OK ,gonna go for a ride and see where the temp gauge sits.
I'll be back later.

That sounds about right to me. There are a surprising amount of parts from 4cyl Honda car engines that will swap. (Thermostat, temp sensor, oil filters, etc.) Engines typically run most efficiently in the 175-200 degree range. The resistance in the electrical stuff is what can mess you up, though, on parts swapping.
Soooooooooooo, how was the ride?? :)

Geeeezzzzzz. pretty quick for a 450. So jeffZX9, your saying most bike engines run best in the 175 - 200 range. If that is a fact, then I think everything is OK. Temp needle stayed below the halfway mark while cruising around in 67 degree outside temp.
I guess my new switch is working alright, and yes, you can spend alot of time trying switches from the scraper if you don't know what the hell your looking for. In my case I needed an open to ground single wire switch High resistance cold and as temp rises resistance drops to 0 closing switch, completing connection and viola! fan on. I think I would like to try a different switch say, 185 on 175 off, Holy crap, didn't realize the time, gotta crash, pics later today. Thanks again for the help

Nice. Sounds like you are Golden if everything is operating correctly and within specs. That a KZ in the background?

Just posted my 83 650 kz-csr H3 as my avatar. I have more pics if your hungry for some eye candy.
If your talking about the bike behind the 454, its a V4 1100 sabre, and its a monster, Man is that thing quick for a 27yr. old bike.

nice, looked like the engine was angled wrong in the pic. lol

heck yeah, the sabre and the v-max were potent rides. I know of one track organization that will not allow you to run these on the track. Great power, but lousy corner/braking performance.
