2002 kawasaki prairie 650 issue
Have another problem 2002 kawasaki prairie 650 every time you decelerate it back fires, no matter if it's warmed up or not. Had it tuned up at the kawasaki shop and ever since it runs great but back fires. Anyone know how to adjust the carbs out to stop this?

stock exhaust? and no other modifications? You just had it tuned up and the backfiring started? So take it back to the mechanic. However, I do not mind some popping on decel if my air fuel and power is there. If you start messing with the carb, then your mechanics fine tuning job just flew out the window.

Dragone I believe the mechanic was a teenager and it is out of warranty of service. I had it there 6 months ago but just started riding it more this summer.

So there is a chance of contaminated fuel and gunk in the carb then after 6 months as well. Even though you did mention popping right after the tuning. Start with fresh fuel, run some stabil, change the plug then do a plug chop to see where you are at. (I used stabil for the first time and it takes awhile before it actually worked for me. But it did work.) Read the plug and post up a pic. |
Took it to a shop in town......Where are any real mechanics, made it worse. Now is is sluggish and backfires more than it ever has. I give up on repairman for this thing.

wow, and you are still fighting it. That sucks. Look into your carb tuning sites online and do your wfo plug chop to post up your plug reading. (or email me since I have some manuals/info as well)

Try messin with your airfilter. Take the top off and run it that way. Check the airfilter and make sure its oiled and not dry. Might be time for a rejet or you got somethin in the carbs. You can pull the carb bowls off WITHOUT pullin the carbs. Prairies are easier to work on the than the brutes when it comes to carb work.

The shop pulled the carbs and cleaned them, but I don't believe they set them correctly. It has a new air filter and spark plugs. I am not sure how to adjust the carbs, if I knew how I might just try to adjust them my self. At this point what would it hurt?
