2001 7R cam tensioner adjustment

can any of you guys cut and paste the cam chain tensioner adjustment for me. I have the cam chain buzz at idle and I want to try to adjust it out. 2001 ZX7R

I found the manual. It looks as though the tensioner is "automatic" and there is no adjustment. So what can be done to eliminate the cam chain buzz?

The tensioner is adjustable. Remove the tensioner, do not allow the cam chain to move ie turn the engine over. Turn the slotted screw all of the way out with the tensioner off of the ride. I made a special tool to hold the spring and plunger in place so that you can place the tensioner back into place. Tighten the two holding screws of the tensioner back onto the ride, release the spring and plunger.

Sometimes when the tensioner is almost ready to click from auto adjustment, I would back up the ride in 4th or 5th gear and pop the clutch to aide in the auto adjustment prior to tensioner removal if needed after this.

I did the tensioner today, the tensioner is different than you described. There is no adjustment to it; but it is self adjusting by means of a 1-way ratchet mechanism. Basically all you can do is re-set the mechanism and then I backed it up in 5th gear. I could barely hear the mechanism click but it worked. Now when the bike is idling it is significantly quieter.

BTW, the bike has around 16k miles on it and the ratchet was about 5 clicks from being at the end of it's travel.

Being one way is the auto adjuster. Like I mentioned in the pms, there are 2 ways to adjust it. You happy now? 5 clicks with not removing the cct is horrible. May want to inspect the rod and spring if it was that far out of whack.

edit: It is not friday yet, you home early?

ahh, a matter of interpretation. I guess what I meant was there is only 5 clicks of travel left before the tensioner cant adjust any more. (chain stretch)

is that what you meant Drag?

hmm, no. But 5 clicks at 17k miles may be telling you something though. 5 clicks is enough though.

so, on a thursday night..... I have THE WHO and Zeppelin playing in the background while I post. I was going to ride tonight but its really dropping into the 30s pretty quickly.

I have brand new D607s on my KLR and I cant even scuff them in because the roads are wet.
