1981 kz750 ltd
Hi All, I hope someone out there can help me with my problem. I have an 81 KZ750 LTD, which is all stock. I have had it a few years and it was running strong. Now, about 5-6 miles into the ride, it seems as though the bike is being held back from it's full power. This only happens after it gets warm. When it's cold, it flies. I had the carbs cleaned and adjusted with no difference. I swapped out the coils, hoping one was cutting out after it got heated, still no luck. I changed the plugs, oil and battery just as regular maintenence. It feels as though one of the coils is shutting down and the bike goes from four cylinders to two. This is driving me crazy. We had nice weather up here in MA this weekend and I had to cut short the ride. Can anybody out there figure this out. I appreciate any suggetsions. Thanks in advance!
Welcome to the forums, PSV. I would make sure you have fresh gas. Then I would double-check your wiring and ground. Have you ever changed the plug wires? Might want to consider. Make sure your ground is clean and tight.
Welcome again. Post up some pics of your classic! Gear up; stay safe.

Thanks for the quick reply Jeff. I know the gas is fine because I keep filling up. I haven't tried the wires and I will check the ground. I appreciate the help. I am new to the forum, but love all the links. Alot still to check out. Thanks Again!!!

I like Jeffs prelim,
what does a spray of ether around the rubber components do?,,,,ie vacuum lines, carb boots, stuff. What does it do? I always have had an issue with cracked carb boots on the older rides. Checking and replacing the vacuum tubes at the same time is a bonus. I know, kind a backwards thinking, but just a thought for ya with newly tuned carbs for older rubber components.
