Default 14-15 tooth question...

hey guys...I have a zx9r, and the guy i got it from put on a 15 tooth front sprocket, as opposed to the 14 tooth stock sprocket. I know that this decreased torque and gave it a little more high end...but my question is, If i go back to the 14...how much of a difference will there be? I have ridden MX for 4 years, and love ridin out long wheelies...but right now, the bike is a real pain to stand up...you need to be in the powerband (at around 7000)....and i'd like to be able to do em a little bit slower. Will putting on the 14 give me the low end i need to pop it up and keep it under controll? Thanks in advance.

did he change out the rear sprocket too? Most guys will go -1 +2 to get more acceleration out of it. stock rear is a 44.

I don't think it would hurt to try....then if the stock ratio isn't what you want then you can go and get a complete -1 +2 kit.

Well, it might hurt to put it back on...

Sprockets and chains should be seen as a single unit. If you only change out one of the parts, it could lead to uneven and excessive wear.

Very true. If you have questions check with this guy http://www.sprocketcenter.com/ ask for Brian he is very helpful.

If you want more low end and easier wheelies go at least -1 in the front from stock. Going +2 in the rear too will make you smile big.

I run around daily on my bike -1 +2 and it rocks. Very fast! Very easy to bring her up.

you will notice a very big difference... better low end get up and go.. I would go to a 13 tooth sprocket... the best you can do is go -1 front and +2 in the rear for the best finel drive.. the only thing is if you travl the highway a lot.. it kinda sux... I run at 75 MPH and my RMP's are at 7500... when it was stock I ran at 6000 rmps.. it is a compromise but IMO it better

RPM's will go up some but my bike loves it. Most bikes like more than less any way. Lost a little MPH but not enough to mater.

Easy money, do it your self. The hardest thing is adjusting the chain and that’s if you have never done it before.

As far as sprockets go if your just street riding stay with the heavier 530 chain and steel sprockets are fine. You can get fancy rears that are alloy but they wear faster. They do come in different colors and look cool.

I went with the DID 530 gold chain cause it looks pimp.

If you want to trim weight do the 520 conversion the chain is smaller and lighter and you will have to get the 520 sprockets to match.

Here is a link to where I got mine. http://www.sprocketcenter.com/ Call and ask for Brain he is a lot of help. He will if you ask him, even cut your chain so it will be ready to install with no hassle . Removing links takes a special tool.

Good luck.
