Ninja 650r MPG Issue
Hi guys,
First time poster here, totally new to the forums. I was hoping I could get a bit of info on my current issue.
I recently purchased a 2009 Ninja 650r with only 700 miles on it! It is totally factory, the previous owner didn't do a thing to it... his maintenance record sheet was empty. Since then I've done all inspections and also changed the oil.
So, before purchasing the bike I obviously looked into it's MPG rates, which were around 40MPG-50MPG, since I am a daily commuter (no car). Sadly, this is NOT what I am achieving. I am averaging around 27MPG!!! I don't understand why it's at such low digits compared to other studies.
Basically I would like to think of myself as a decent rider, especially since this is not my first bike. I am definitely not aggressive, I try to keep the RPM's in the 4.0k-5.5k's. I also like to coast on the downhills.
As far as my trip... Initially, I start the bike up for 3-5 minutes before getting on. Then drive an 8.3 mile stretch to work in 60 degree weather. I do not ride on highways, I am on back roads + tiny bit of city. In total I make around 7 stops (Traffic lights + stop signs).
I use regular 'Shell' gas if that even effects anything...
Any info/suggestion is most appreciated... THANK YOU!

I am curious to see what you can bring up for "service codes" on this ride. No way is 27mpg normal for this ride. Even my 10r is in the low 30's while on the track.
Get a manual if you don't already, there is a good write up on service codes, how to read them etc in the DFI section of the factory manual. Some good reading and more than I can post up within any understanding. lol
