keys

I only have one key for my bike and almost lost it 3x in one day. Where can I get copies made? Does it have to be a Kawi dealer or can anywhere that makes keys make me a copy?

As far as I now - a copy of a key can be made anywhere that does it.

Unless the key has a computer chip in it. The key to my Firebird has a chip in it (some sort of anti-theft device), I have to get copies from the dealer (you don't even want to know the cost!!) Needless to say, I have never lost those keys!

Yeah, on another thread some guys said any local Lowes or Home Depot should have the right blank needed to make a copy for a few bucks. You can also get official kawi blanks from your dealer for about $10-15/ea if I remember right. You might pay more for a locksmith, but the old man at Lowes or Home Depot can cut it for you just as well.

Locksmith will work, i wouldnt take it lowes or depot or any place like that. They have an average joe cutting keys that work half the time lol

Yah, they only work half the time, but they're half as expensive... It's not rocket science, and they've always cut another one for free if I said it didn't work.

I agree, but it cost about $2 in gas now a days to run back there for there mistake. I deal with a locksmith for all my keys and he is only like $.75 more than depot/lowes and his **** always works. I even make keys my self, but its a onesided machine, so i cant make nothing but deadbolt keys :(

Not sure what bike you have or what your key looks like, but for my 2000' ZX9 I bought some identical blanks on e-bay. I've seen these many times and just recently from multiple auctions. I got (2) for $8.00. I could have gotten them through RonAyers.com for $12.00 per key.
