does anybody know if the carbon fiber hand levers on ebay are any good???
A friend of mine bought those carbon fiber handles for 20 bucks on Ebay for his Katana. He loves them, and they look cool....

Another thing to look out for is sand in the road... The bike almost slid out from under me. And I was not even in a lean... bike was almost straight up, cause I was ready for it.

As far as things to look out for: Dont get confortable riding. Pretend that you'r invisable, cause on a bike you are. Every car is going to turn in front of you. Even if you think they saw ya. Always slow down before you cross a intersection. Always go over scenarios of what could happen and have an escape for each one... I sure there is alot more and the people here will agree, that these simple task will save your life. I know cause I followed them, and yea that MSF will help... I still need to go myself being that I only started riding in sept. oh yea, welcome to the forum

DRH,
suck dude. Sorry to hear it. I got a story. I was out buying my bike at a local dealer. Sat on a bike. got off walked away then BAM it fell over onto another brand new bike. The mirror snapped off went flying into the air and landed in time for all the shop staff to see it. I dropped my first bike at 0mph and without a licence!!! I'm still embarrassed about it. Good on ya for discovering a weekness and beating it. Be smart and have fun.

Don't be so hard on yourself DRH! First off I'll make you feel better, my very first ride after getting my license, stopped in a parking lot (of course it was packed!), shut off the bike, got the huge grin on my face cause I'm so proud of myself being out on my first ride. So next thing I know the bike goes down and so do I. Lesson learned, immediately after shutting the bike off, get the kickstand down!!!

To get used to slow speed manouvers, you can do figure eights (a great exercise to try is doing two circles to the left, then two to the right and then do two figure eights), you can also try a slow straight line ride (have someone walk beside you and try to keep pace with them by using clutch/throttle control and rear brake), and serpentines are a good exercise as well. The most important part is to use your clutch to control the speed.

On a side note, I have not dropped my bike since the first incident! Hopefully it will be the first and last!

Hey man, I've been there and done that!

First "offense" - The day I purchased my bike I was unloading my new 05 ZX6R out of hte back of my truck and WHAAAM! Yes I droped it on a crub! Right middle fairing cracked, right turn signal broken, rear brake pedal broken.

Second "offense" - Just pulled into work when I shut the bike off and pop the kick stand down, unfortuately not all the way, the kickstand springs back up and all I could do was slowly let the bike go down as it was still in-between my legs. Scratch on oil pan, scratch on left handle, clutch pedal broken.

Third "offense" - I was traveling about 55MPH through a winding street, I did have a passenger on the bike - huge mistake! The whole ride she's looking all around shifting her weight trying to see her friend on another bike behind me, no matter how many times I told her to stop, she kept doing it. I went into a turn and realized with her shifting her weight I'm F**KED at this point - I stand the bike up and apply brake pressure - there wassome water on the roads but I hit the curb about 22MPH and bruised my shoulder. Fairing got scratched, turn signal ripped off, mirror busted, front wheel knocked off balance.

I've yet to have any "major" damage to my bike, this will be the second time I have had to replace my right middle fairing. My frame sliders helped a bit but they, for the most part, dug into the ground and kicked mud up every where on my bike and me. The passenger was fine too - both we wearing gear! I've ordered all of my replacement parts from RonAeyers.com, as they were the cheapest I found - if you know of a better one, get what you need and keep riding.

In hind site, I was probably still to inexperienced to have a passenger, but she made matters much worse! It's fun to let hot chics jump on the back of a bike, but do it only when you're ready. Be careful out there and take it easy man!

I should look into that - I'd have to offer courses to motorcyclists and cages (teach them how to open their freakin eyes and look at whats going on around them!!!)

I just have a good memory (what I described is actually all that I needed to do in order to pass my bike test!, well of course I also had to show them that I could stop the bike )
