Default Dragon's Tail - Thanks Giving a good time?

My wife will be on a business trip and I though this may be the perfect time to "DO IT".

Is the weather ok during Thanks Giving weekend? I have a winter suit ... it is good up to 30F.

I'll be driving from Washington, DC. Any ideas on a good route and where to sleep on my way there and on my way back? The idea is to leave early Thursday, sleep somewhere that night and get there on Friday. Ride the dragon on Friday and saturday and leave saturday afternoon.

321 to 129/Deals Gap. 411 to Newport. 25 to Del Rio. 107/70 to Greenville. 11 to Elizabethton.
91 to where else, but Shady Valley. 133 to Damascus. 58 to Hillsville.
221 to Roanoke.
Do this but in reverse order. Sorry, didn't feel like typing it the correct way for you to take.
That will give you plenty of slab to make up the time you are going to lose on the twisties on all those roads in VA and TN.

Or you could hit the BRP - Blue Ridge Parkway down to the smokies/Gatlinburg then hit 321 across to the Foothills Parkway to 129 and on to the dragon.

You could stay anywhere long any of those roads. But you might as well check in to the campground once you get to the CRoT. Or one of the many motorcycle resorts around the TN/NC area.

i honestly wouldn't recommend riding down and back from the dragon.
how far is it down there and back? also if ur riding a sport bike, riding the dragon in exhaust and you WILLNOT want to ride back, esp the same day, but also there are so many other roads to ride down there that you will need a good 2 days of full riding and when ur done, the last thing you are going to want to do is ride back home. that and if you wreck on the dragon, getting home would be interesting.

I agree and disagree - I would hit the dragon at least once each way. BUT I wouldnt do it on the same day. There are MULTITUDES of roads in NC and TN - Cherohala Skyway for example which will take you a couple of hours then you can head back towards NC once you get to the end. The dragon is fun once or twice. It will wear you out if you arent used to it. And when you get tired is when you get bitten. Hard. Get a local map or get some advice from the locals here. Everyone has their favorite route.
