they require less maintanance than chains, but not NO maintenance LOL.

Yes!! I had an 83 shaft drive three wheeler, it was nice to be able to go into the mud and across rivers and not have to worry about maintenance. And yes I wasn't so **** back then, dirt wasn't well....as dirty back then.

 

Yeah, I'm thinkin if belts were any better, they would be on almost every bike instead of chains.

 

Besides I saw a gal on a huge Harley and the belt broke leaving her stranded on the side of the road with her buddies. One plus on the chain, you don't have to separate the back wheel from the swing armto put a new one on, a belt would be a pain. Although I heard somewhere that they do in fact have a master link for a belt system, although I haven't personally seen it.

 

If you ever replaced a belt on a Harley, you would prefer chains.
