I have 2006 636, it has Bridgestone Batlax tires. My three friends went to ride on highway last weekend. Their bikes are gsxr-1000, cbr 1000 and R1. All of them have batlax tires. Gsxr-1000 rider feel a storng vibration duruing ride and pull over and check his tires. The condition of tire is terrible. His bike is on 400 KM. When the other check thier tires they saw same problems on their tires. How canit beonly in 400 KM. Is it possible that batlax tires have problems?

 

Wow, that is not good! Hopefully no-one was injured. I would definitely contact the dealer (if that's where the bikes were purchased.) I would also go onto the Bridgestone website and look for contact information to report this chunking problem, and include the pics. If it happened to your buddies, it's probably happening to other riders as well. Don't let a dealer (or a retailer depending upon where tires were obtained, now or any other time) pass this off!! This is a serious safety issue.You could potentially help save some fellow riders lives byaggressively reportingthe problem.Chunking is a manufacturing defect; not an "uncovered normal wear and tear" issue. You could have lost your friends because of it.

 

This one is other bike's tire which is on same ride. They were five bikes during ride, three of them use bridgestone tires. They ride thier bikes 250+ for 30-40 km on highway. After they ride 30-40 km, gsxr-1000 rider feel the vibration and pull over. When they look thier tires, bridgestone users realise they have this problem, other bikes' tires were in good condition. I think this ismanufacturing defect of bridgestone tires.

 

Chunking is usually due to a heat issue where the rubber tread gets much hotter than the carcass and the adhesive begins to breakdown. The rubber can't hold on, and begins to chunk where the temperature differential is greatest between the surrounding areas. If your buddies were riding beyond the rated speed of the tire, 1.) they're living dangerously, 2.) they obviously need higher performance tires, 3.) it's possible there may be an argument in replacement coverage. However, the fact remains that the tire was chunking. (I'm assuming the "250+" is kph? Which translates to something around 120-125mph?) I'd still pursue the issue based on the facts. (Um, it was at the track, right??)
Recall the incident at the Carrera Panamerica (I think) about 10 years ago when a guy in a Ferrari Testa Rossa fatally crashed. They determined the cause to be speed in excess of the tire's rating. A big lawsuit occurred, but the driver/owner was determined responsible because he disregarded/improperly used tires not designed forspeeds in excess of 150mph.
Bottom line is this: If you're gonna be a fast guy, make DARN sure your equipment is as fast as you.
I'm glad nobody got seriously hurt.

 

Hmmmm, been thinking about what race that Ferrari was in. I don't think it was the Panamerica, but it was some race in deep southern California/Mexico area. (Was not a "track" race.)
