2006zx10r wont start just backfires
Short story of prolbem 2006 ZX10R., went for a short ride in the am ,then bike sat for about 3-4hrs. Thats when it started and shut off i did it again gave some gas and shut off again. Tryed to start it but would not start flooded so pushed back into the "bike house" let it sit over night went out the next day samething. SO went out got new plugs $45,put everything back! nothing crank..crank backfirecrank...crank backfire backfire crank. If I unplug fuel no moer backfire so I have spark and fuel. I also have checked them and I do have both. some say camsensor bad? ecu?cranksensor? Crank??? IT ran fine no loss of power not a sign @ all plugs were bad but have new ones?

I'll take a stab. When you say you "unplug the fuel no moer backfire so I have spark and fuel" are you saying the bike runs properly (very briefly) or it simply just grinds on the starter? I doubt it's the plugs or the crank. What's the history on the bike; any mods, hacks, "go-fast" chips/maps/ecu swaps? Any prior accidents (which may have damaged circuits?) How many miles are on the bike? Previous owner make any "track mods?" All wiring is tight and right? Been left out in the rain? If there is a manual fuel petcock, do you shut it off after you ride and turn it on each time you ride? Any "milk" in the oil? Odd smells or leaks? Fresh fuel? Routinely require starting fluid to fire? I think you said in another post, that your timing and valves are to spec. Any visible clues in the top end when you checked valves?

Our manual states possible Camshaft position or crankshaft position sensor problems, along with battery being low, immobilizer and the vehicle down sensor (DFI) coming off.
You did not mention that the DFI light was lit, so prolly rules that one out. The crankshaft sensor inspection is on pg: 16-40 The camshaft sensor inspection is on pg: 16-45 I can elaborate on what the factory manual says on how to test this if you need. |
thanks, ck timming good ,no FI light ,but it did shut off once that day on that short ride.and sometimes she would grunt when i hit the starter and when i let go i would kick back the starter drive so got new battery stilldid it from timt to time, but battery is only 2 mo. old same as oem I hope this helps
