chuck, it's a pretty straightforward job if you have some basic tools. No need to "adjust valves." Should be a take off bodywork, unbolt existing unit at the header and rear footpeg bracket (probably), install new unit in likewise fashion, re-attach bodywork. You can do this.

and I think that the centerstand will have to be removed for the muzzy. So, if you like the center stand like I do, a muzzy is not the best choice. As mentioned, no valve anything....I would check the jetting after the install and adjust where needed.

Since yer doin exhaust, look into an airfilter too. Gotta have good flow in and good flow out. X2 on the jetting.

Ditch the centerstand. Those are cool on old Brit thumpers; not sportbikes. Shed some pounds. I probably wouldn't spend huge dollars on a system for a 500 unless I was planning to keep it forever or it was an old classic. Might go with a Jardine or "budget" brand, just to accomplish weight loss and better flow.

Keep the stock exhaust, the 500 is a street bike, not a race bike by no means. Keep it tuned and and maintained, and enjoy the ride. As mentioned, the 500 is not really a bike that you want to throw money at, but maintain and enjoy it. Yes, the loss of a center stand will save a couple of pounds. But for the street? (who cares?), I like my center stands as mentioned above since this is not my track ride. I have too many high gusts of wind in my area to trust a side stand. If anything, I really like the clean lines of the sarachu cans. Now that the 250 class racing is gaining steam, area P may have some options for you as well.

Also remember you might be able to find a used system since the 500's were made for many yrs. Mid 80's to 2009 or somethin. Drag prob knows! I personally love center stands. Make it easier to do swingarm stuff like change tire or do chain maintenance. The 500 is just a good ole friend that will never die. Take care of it and it will last along time. Thats why kawi never really changed them for decades. If it aint broke, dont fix it is their moto haha.
