Interesting Study of Gear
Hey everyone, I was doing some research on Textile and how well it holds up on a crash and I came across this interesting study done in Australia so I thought it would be worth a post here (hope this is not a repost). Interesting how important the pants and boots are in crash. I always wear a leather jacket, boots, glooves, and usually some kevlar reinforced jeans on rides around town although I do wear leather pants on longer recreational rides. I was wearing all leather on my one and only get off and they definitely spared me a great deal more pain that justa few broken ribs. Was thinking of picking up a textile jacket for short runs during summer months.
Anyway, you may need to copy and paste the link into your address barand a pdf document will load.

I always wear a perforated leather jacket, even during the summar. Was thinking about a lighter weight jacket for short trips but now I gotta think about a different way to protect the legs on those same kinds of trips....maybe some leg armour under those kevlar jeans??
^^^ Which gear? The textile or the leathers? I've found that you can get good deals on decent leathers if you do some good shopping. My first jacket (Frank Thomas Strike, perforated kangaroo) was about $300 with a 20% off coupon from Cycle Gear (interestingly enough, my local Cycle Gear store used to hand out 20% off coupons at the register!). 2nd was a Dianese leather perforated on close out at Cycle Gear, around $300. 3rd was a MotoGP perforated leather from Newenough.com on close out for $130!! Dianese perforated leather pants were bought on close out at the Dianese store for $150.
