I am new to bikes and would like some advice on picking the right helmet. I tried on a few helmets at 2 different cycle shops and got different advice on fit, one shop said I wear a med. and one said small. Do helmets "break in" or become loose/less tight over time? Should I get a helmet that "fits" brand new or will it get wiggle room and slide around on my head over time? Small seems tight and medium just right but closer to loose, please chime in and make suggestions on brand, fit,andwhere to buy in DFW areaor the internet. Thanks.

 

It really should be as tight as u can stand without givin u a head ache and they will losen up with a little sweat and wear if you buy it just right or loose it will losen up 2 much and not only not be as safe but will wiggle around at speed it sux to have that thing lift and crawlup your head at speed or shift around when you look behind you. also try different brands they will have different fits try to find 1 that fits your whole head without tight spots say in the forehead and loose on the top even the same brands have different styles for different head shapes and make sure sneel and dot approved. helmets not the place to skimp out on quality good luck on your hunt

 

oh and if you buy on net you should find a shop that at least has that brand and try on for fit first otherwise you might hafta send back a few times to get the right 1 even if its free to snd back it still takes a few days to a week to get it back

 

I got a full-face DOT and SNELL approved helmet from a domestic seller on Ebay. The markup at the retails stores is crazy. I ended up having to order different cheek pads, as the ones in my helmet were squeezing my face too tightly. With that and a new tinted shield, I still came out cheaper than buying retail.

If you want to buy retail, Cycle Gear in Plano is a good shop, but I will tell you than they have ahuge stock of $600+ Shoei and not so much selection in the lower priced segments.

first off all brands shape the inside of there helmets differently so youre head might not fit into all of them in the same size. secondly helmets break in slightly but not enough for you to have to try and endure pain hopeing it will losen up. and finally a helmet should be tight enough where when you have the facesheild up you move the helmet side to side and you feel youre skin move with the helmet and up and down the same thing. if a helmet feels good everywhere but loose in one spot it is because youre head shape does not fit in it. i would suggest going to a dealer where they are knowledgable and get fitted for a helmet they will tell you what brand will fit you best and no they dont always say the most expensive one.

 

Man I just got spoiled, Itried on a RF 1000 Shoie but at $450.00 + DAMN!!!!!![:-]
