Default Eliminator 125 running badly

I just bought a 2007 Eliminator 125 with only 1962 miles and have driven it around the block a few times and everything seemed fine. Today I took it for a longer ride and it died and wouldn’t start back up. After letting it sit for 10 minutes or so, it started back up but the idle was high, then low and died. Started again and same thing. I changed the plug last week, I put on a new air filter also. Today I drained the tank, put in fresh gas, I removed the carb, cleaned thoroughly, tightened up intake and air cleaned connections and it ran great for a few minutes and then started the same high idle, low idle, die. I suspect the fuel petcock isn’t working properly as it seems to fill up the bowl, then it runs for a few months minutes and then starts acting up again. I’m lost! I hate to take it to the dealer as I nay paid $1000 for the bike and don’t want to dump a fortune in it. I’d appreciate any help. Thanks in advance,
