Default Starting bike after it sat for years

I have a 1981 Kawasaki KZ750H LTD. It hasn't been started for years. What type of maintenance should I perform before starting it?

Odds are the carbs have had the gas in them dry out leaving a residue that will come off when wetted with fresh gas, then proceed to clog up the pilot circuit making it so the bike will only run on choke. Really the bowls will need cleaned out before starting - or take a chance and go for it.

Thanks. Should I do anything else to the carbs?

If by some chance you can get the float bowls off without removing the carbs, make sure the floats move and the float needles appear to be moving and seating, clean the bowls, put them back on and try it out.

Otherwise it's a carbs off to do the work.
