How to repair old school brass carb floats from a KZ 1000

Here is a Pro ET bike I maintain and tune for Dorey Racing . # 2 cylinder was wet fowling the plug and filling the motor with fuel.

I found a hole in the float causing it to sink allowing fuel to flow all the time on the # 2 cylinder.

After carb removal and disassembly you can shake the floats and tell if fuel is in them . Once you find the bad float you must remove all the fuel before re sealing the hole .

Putting the float in the sun for an hour usually takes care of this for you . Next using a bowl of alcohol
submerge the float and watch for air bubbles . Mark the area and clean well after using some sand paper to rough up the area of work .

Using a soldering gun heat the float and apply some solider to seal the hole . Allow to cool a few minutes and check for leaks.

Last cheak your float height and reinstall all parts . Repair is done.
