how to put your bike on a stand by yourself
this goes out to the newbies and whoever it was that e mailed me about the "thing" the guy at the dealership said you should get. and im only making this so you and your 3 friends do not try to pick up the rear of your bike and set it on the stand. ok...lets go.
1st. this is a type of a rear swing arm stand. also known as a race stand, service stand, etc..
in order to use a stand, youll need spools on your swing arm or a stand that has the pins for a non spooled swing arm. i highly recamend the vortex stand as it has both options.
this is the bike

these are the swing arm spools

this is the rear stand

first knotice how the bike leaning at a angle will cause a problem with the stand lining up to the spools and or the swing arm ?

heres the solution. take a 2x4 and place it under the kick stand

now look at how the rear stand allmost sits tight up against the spools. the other side is completly touching.

next. grab the rear seat strap or the rear section to support the balence of the bike and push down on the stand arm. keep in mins the stand and bike will want to roll if you are on a incline or such, this is another reason to have a hand on the seat strap or the entire rear section. if you have a seat cowel, put your arm around it like your hugging it. granted you are not rolling, you only need to support the balence of the bike untill the weight of the bike is completly on the rear stand.

heres some misc pics so you get the idea.

to get the bike off the stand, put the kick stand down, slowly lift up on the rear stand lever and as soon as the tire touched ground, balence the bike so it sorta falls on its kick stand or do what i do, put the 2x4 back under the stand and it wont seem as if is going to slam down. its all balence.
GOOD LUCK

wow, that 636 was sweet... anyhows, I agree with getting it straight up vertical and no side stand to get the rear stands in place. Once you are comfy with the weight of your ride, and practice, no big deal.
