NEW (old) BIKE!! 1976 KE 175
Its a nice ole Kaw.. It runs like a top. Just needs some fresh rubber, rear brakes, battery, and a headlight and then im ready to register and ride it on the street.. Im pretty stoked about this old bike, its the easiest thing ive ridden in a long time.. It rolls great down the road and just as good around my yard. I had it up to 70 once and decided to wait to try that again after lookin at the tires. Anyways enough about that, Ive come to ask you guys if there are any tips or tricks to these old thumpers. Its always nice to know what demons might pop out of this bike and I want to hear them all since I will be putting a good amount of road miles on it. O yeah im new to the kaw forums so cheers everybody
Oh and as far as originality is concerned, its missing the cover for the tool box and the side cover that covers the oil tank.. It still has the spare fuse holder and the key! And the steering lock still has the tumbler in it that works with the key for the ignition. Every time I look at this thing I find something else that is somehow still there after all these years
The biggest thing that I can remember from my KE250 was synching the oil cable/pump adjustments to the carb. Seems like the majority of people preferred to just pre-mix manually and not rely on the pump.
Welcome to the forums. That looks like a two stroke, so the only advice is take a spare spark plug with you and a way to change it. Other than that keep it opened up and it wont have much of a chance to foul.
Ok so i have accomplished my goal of "breaking" my bike.. I figured i would rack a few miles on this thing before touching it with a wrench to figure out what all was wrong.. And that i did.. So problems were just rear brakes, tires, and batt. Now i have added the crank seals and clutch to that list.. I blew out was was remaining of the crank seals since it hits about 4-5000rpm and falls on its face.. And the clutch slipped in the powerband in 5th gear before the seals took a deuce.. So my question for you guys is have you ever went about changing out the seals and clutch? i have replaced the clutch on my 250x quad with no problems and was curious as to the amount of work involved with the seals..
