Default F7 vs KE

This past weekend I purchased what I thought was a 1975 KE175 but it appears it is an F7 175. What I was wondering is, besides the exhaust on opposite sides, is there a difference?

Thanks!

that is a clean looking ride.

I am unfamiliar with a F7. Looked in my KE manual, but did not see any F7 topic. Guess I need to google an F7 now.

F7 was the original designation. Kawasaki went to the new nomenclature around 1975. The Z1 became the KZ900, the H1 became the KH500, and the F7 became the KE175. They were developing a sort of uniformity in those designations much as they do now.

Back in the 70s:

KE - dual sport two stroke
KL - dual sport/off road four stroke
KX - motocross
KZ - four stroke street
KH - two stroke street

Now:

KX - motocross
KLX - dual sport/off road/SM
ZX - sport
ZG - sport touring
VN - cruiser
EX - sport twins
EN - cruiser in-line and single
There are a several others, including the ATV line and jet skis, but not sure what they all are... but I think you now understand the thought process and why your F7 is a KE175.

Thanks for the info. From what I've learned it appears the F7 was last made in 1975 (year of my bike) then 76 started the KE series. Now I just need to go through the fun of trying to get a title...lol. The original owner never had one he says and the DOT doesn't show it. Guess I need to have it inspected and so forth.
