Vulcan 800 Carb Problem
I'm looking for a little advice. I just purchased a 2001 Vulcan 800 from a private owner, and I'm already having carb problems. The bike ran fine when I test rode it, but 2 days later after I trailered it home it wouldn't stay running. First, there was a lot of fuel coming out of the exhaust. Then, I pulled the air filter cover off and at least 2 cupspoured out. With the air filter off the bike ran good, but fuel filled the drain cup and eventually started coming out of the vent. I spoke with someone from the local Kawasaki dealer, and he suggested I check the needle to make sure it's seating properly. The needlelooked brand new andseemed to be seating fine, so I just cleaned it up real good. When that didn't help, I adjusted the float approximately 1mm. Now there's no extra fuel draining, but it won't stay running when I give it gas (idle is fine). If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks,
Eric

RE: Vulcan 800 Carb Problem
I think the dealer is correct. Check your float shut-off needles. They are probably worn out. If not, the floats are way out of whack! Also, your fuel tank petcock valve could be leaking if it's the type that is supposed to shut off fuel flow when the engine is off. (Most are that type.)
