carbs removal

Hi, I just got an 82 ltd550 and it hasn't run for 10 yrs. So I want to take off the carbs and clean them, but the air box doesn't move back far enough to pull carbs back, and also how in the world can I remove the cables on the carb side. Absolutely no room to get in there. I have a honda 750 and it is simple to take them off. Any manual out there that is better than the Clymer I have?

Cant say I've seen a ltd in person so I cant be much help, but you should be able to get the airbox off the carbs to get more room and if its anything like mine you can loosen the boots and take the carbs off without takeing off the cables, then you can work them out at your leisure. Good luck with the fix.

The ldt550 has the same engine as KZ550, so if anyone has experience removing those carbs, this would be the same, I am pretty sure.

Welcome to KF Harvey69

Not sure on the ltd, but on my KZ 1k or other steel framed rides, remove the battery, loosen the air box and you can move the airbox back against the battery box. If the box boots are still pliable, removal and install is aided by the additional 1/2" clearance. Good luck
