Default Shifting issues

I've got a 2005 vulcan 2000 classic ltd. when shifting from 5th to 4th, 4th to 3rd gears, etc, the gear shift lever goes down a little too far. It shifts with no issues except for this. No grinding, abnormal noises, etc. I have to lift up the gear shift lever with the corner of my boot to get it back into its normal position so I can shift again (even if I'm going to go back to 5th gear from 4th. I'm not a fan of the heel shifter.) I'm thinking this problem is the gear shift return spring. Suggestions? Comments?

I am thinking that you have it nailed down with your description. Welcome to KF
