Default Tail Bags for the 1600 Nomad

Does anyone have a line on where I can find a source for a tail bag that will fit on the back of the Nomad? With that big passenger back rest, most standard ones will not fit. I will be doing the Run for the Wall in May and will have a passeenger and I need more storage than the standard hard bags.
thanks

I have an 2006 Nomad and was faced with the same problem, finding a tail bag that would fit over the fat backrest. After extensive calling to manufacturers of these bags, I found one who said their bags would work. This was Nelson-Rigg. They also said that if I had a problem fitting it the way I wanted, they would send me some strap extensions. I ordered the CTB950 bag, which is a large bag with included Roll Bag and rain cover.

I did get it to fit, by only using the bottom strap around the bottom of the backrest (under the pad) and using the two aux. straps from the passenger handrail, up to the middle buckles on the bag. However, I felt that more straps around the backrest would be more secure and safer. Therefore, my dealer call Nelson-Rigg and they are mailing me some extension straps.

This is a very nice bag.

Greetings!

From all the research I've done in looking for a worthwhile tailbag, what I found out is that I needed to first install a luggage rack which I found at the Cobra website. It works well and I was then able to mount a Tour Master Crueser II bag. Hope this helps!

My extension straps arrived from Nelson-Rigg. The setup is now perfect. The extension straps allow you to strap around the fat backrest & pad of the 2005-06 Nomad.

Forgot to mention,,, I also installed the Cobra rack. The Kawasaki rack sits too high and does not allow enough backrest length to attach the tail bag.

What I did was put 1/4" spacers between the backrest and the sissybar. That left enough space to route the straps around the sissybar for a bag and not around the pad.

I bought the big Saddleman Bag.

I bought a Saddleman Drifter for the rear after getting a corba luggage rack. The Drifter is $200 but has a lot of great features. I has A T-Bag before and this bag has more features and looks better. I like that the front zippered sections come off and can make a sholder bag.

Why must the velcro go around the backrest? I have a 05' Nomad and use both the Kuryakyn ultra tour bag and the Kuryakyn classic tour bag. Both sit on my luggage rack and I strap them to the passenger grab rails and rear rack.

Dave
